WHY LifeLong CBE

What Is Seated Exercise?
Essentially LifeLong Chair Based Exercise offers all the benefits of a gym workout but safely, whilst seated, and without having to learn how to use the cumbersome machines. The program was developed for older adults and those with mobility issues, but is the perfect exercise for all those who aren't quite ready for Zumba! I encourage all participants to exercise at their own pace.
What Are The Exercises?
Every exercise is function based, so nothing is done 'just for the sake of it.' These include pulling/pushing open doors, walking, standing and carrying items whilst walking. Participants tend to see improvements within weeks and continued steady improvement over the longer term.
What Does The Programme Consist Of?
Cardiovascular work, joint mobilization, muscle stretching, muscle strengthening, sit-to-stand techniques, pelvic floor strengthening. Starts gently and is accessible for all levels of fitness (or unfitness!).

Jane McClure

Jane McClure

My name is Jane and my journey to teaching Chair Based Exercise began in 2014, when I moved to Essex. Whilst unpacking in my new home, I slipped off the bottom step of the stairs and ruptured my Achilles Tendon. This led to a huge operation and well over a year off my feet!

My introduction to seated exercise came the following year when I started attending a class run by my local Housing Authority. Within a few weeks I was hooked. Not only was it doing wonders for my recovery, but I was hearing tale upon tale from the other attendees of the benefits it had for them – one lady couldn’t get in and out of a car when she started, another couldn’t open jars and bottles, another couldn’t get out of a chair unaided – now they can!

Within a couple of months I qualified as a Chair Based Exercise leader and within 6 months was teaching that group!

Six months later I began this business, teaching seated exercise all over Essex. I now offer the program to assisted living facilities, day centres, residential homes, social clubs and leisure centres. In fact, any place where people want to gather together and exercise safely and at their own pace.
